How does a piece of cake change from what you just ate at a birthday party into usable fuel for your body? Describe the process and use science-specific words.
It's hard to believe, but the first quarter of 5th grade is already over! Make a list of the things you enjoyed most at school this quarter and tell me WHY! Include at least 5 things. These can be academic, social, or personal.
I won't post these for other students to read, but I might share your ideas with your parents.
Here is an example:
1. I enjoyed field day because I love playing and competing with my friends.
2. Learning to multiply decimals was exciting because I have wanted to learn that since 3rd grade!
3. I love Science Mondays because we get to do experiments and learn about science topics.

Submit your answers here, or write them down on paper and bring them tomorrow morning.

This week, we will have a class debate. Here are the rules:
1. Always be respectful!
2. Add your comment, and then comment on 2 classmates' posts.
3. Learn from other people! Take time to learn from your classmates. Your peers might have ideas that you haven't considered
Now for the topic:
Starting this year, flavored milk is off the menu in public schools in Los Angeles, California. Chocolate milk and strawberry milk often have as much added sugar as a can of cola. School officials say they want kids to improve their diets by drinking plain milk instead. But some parents say that chocolate milk still offers many health benefits, even with the added sugar. They argue that some kids will only drink flavored milk—which is better than drinking no milk at all. What do you think?
On Monday, 5th grade had their first ever Discovery Day! Tell me three things you enjoyed about the day and one thing you would change about the day. Make sure you use complete sentences and give well developed answers!
Oh, No! An accident has happened during a science lab because students weren't using the tools and safety gear properly. What happened, and what safety procedures would have prevented the accident?
Be sure to use science vocabulary that we are learning in class.
Tell me what kind of reader you are. Here are some questions to guide your thinking:
- What genre of books do you like to read?
-How much time do you spend reading?
- Do you read for fun or only for school?
- What is your favorite book or series?
Look at the 12 IB Attitudes above. Choose two of the attitudes that are your strengths and tell about a specific time that you showed that attitude.
Here is an example:
I showed commitment when I was training for a triathlon. Even though it was difficult, I made myself practice every day.
I have tolerance for other people. I always try to find the best in other people, even when it is difficult. When I was at the store this weekend, there was a lady there who was being rude to one of the employees. I thought it was mean of the customer who was being rude, but I thought about why she was acting that way. Maybe she was having a bad day or she wasn't feeling well. I decided to ask her if I could help her find what she was looking for, and she accepted my offer.
Tell me three things that you are worried about as you begin your last year of elementary school. Are there rumors you have heard about 5th grade that you are wondering about? I want to help relieve your fears!
Nobody else will see your questions or concerns - just me. So, feel free to ask anything you want and I will clear things up for you! :)
